Where You Need To Cycle On The Hawaiian Islands

The Hawaiian Islands are renowned for their natural beauty- lush tropical foliage, gorgeous beaches, sheer cliffs plunging into the ocean, and an active volcano can all be seen on the islands. There are many ways to see all that the islands have to offer, but one of the best ways to experience the beauty is by bicycle.

One of the best bike trips on Maui is cycling down Haleakala, a dormant volcano. The most popular way to start this trip is to be driven to the top of Haleakala just before sunrise. Viewing the sunrise from the top of Haleakala is an amazing experience not to be missed. The reds and golds of the sunrise reflect off of the crater, and the Big Island of Hawaii can be seen in the distance. After the sunrise riders enjoy a 28 mile scenic downhill ride from the summit to the sea.

The island of Kauai features a wonderful biking path that is great for the whole family. Located on the east coast of Kauai, the Ke Ala Hele Makalae is a paved path that runs paralell to the ocean and offers gorgeous views of the ocean and coastline. This is an easy, incredibly scenic ride that both adults and children will enjoy. Bike rentals are available for half a day, or fora full day.

When on the Big Island of Hawaii cycling through Volcanoes National Park is a must-do. Tours are available that take you to the top of Kilaeua, one of the most active volcanoes in the world, then through tropical rainforests, and ending as close as possible to the lava flow at sunset. The bike tours also include a visit to the Volcano Winery as well as dinner. This is a very unique biking trip that cannot be replicated anywhere else in the world.
